I had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago, after approximately a year of experiencing pain 2-3 times per week and attacks lasting several hours. I was told by 3 seperate GP's that i had IBS and that it was down to stress, it wasnt until i took myself to A&E after the worst attack that i was told anything but even then it took a 5 day stay in hospital before i was scanned to confirm the gallstones were present. As i said i had my gall bladder removed 2 weeks ago, the surgeon was really surprised when he came to see me following the procedure as he had removed 20-25 stones along with my gallbladder and one of the stones was the size of double-marble - he chuckled and said "i'm not surprised that you were in so much pain", i dont think that the doctors always realise just how painful it can be. I was home the same day from surgery and i'm back at work next week. I have been feeling ok generally, had bt of pain around wounds but nothing compared to the painful attacks. I am worried though about gaining more weight, i have gained a lot of weight whilst waiting for the operation and dont want to gain anymore. Also the last couple of days i have had pain on the left hand side of my stomach and some pain lower down on the right hand side below all of the wounds. Is this normal? The doctors havent really told me what to expect following the op other than i should get back to normal. Please help... |
