Hi, I’ve suffered from chronic pain in my head for the last six months. My friend advised me to go to a pain specialist, but to be honest; I have never visited that kind of doctor before. I’ve always thought that every specialist knows about the pain that affects his area of knowledge. Does anyone know about this?

Hello, pain specialist is a doctor who is expert in diagnosing and treating pain. They usually deal with acute and chronic pain. People are usually sent to Pain specialists if they suffered a long time, even several years. The other doctors know about pain too, but not as well as those who specialized for it. These doctors are mostly anesthesiologists, neurologists, and neurosurgeons. Pain specialist will usually consult with your primary care doctor about causes of pain. They are familiar with many alternative narcotics, in case your treatment doesn’t work. There are many ways of treating pain, like medication therapy, nerve blocks, physical therapy, psychological support and surgery. Pin specialist will know exactly which of these things do you need.
