| I got into a real state a week ago with this swallowing business - it got so bad I felt I could hardly breath. Was totally convinced there had to be a tumor down there. Emergency doctor gave me diazepam to calm me down and the swallowing got easier (proof that anxiety was causing the problem, as diazepam doesn't cure cancer!!!). Had my endoscopy yesterday and was dreading the results - which came back ALL CLEAR. Was tremendously relieved yet still anxious that the pain is still there. Consultant has put me back on Omeprozole for another 4 weeks and took another chest xray and blood test to check for clots (this was clear too). Its a frustrating illness but all I can say is worrying/stressing will definately contribute to your difficulty swallowing. But you do need to go to see a doctor. From what Ive read, my problems could be caused by reflux, this CAN be treated easily, but if left untreated for years and years can lead to more serious things. Go to your doctor.....I certainly feel a ton better today than I did 2 days ago. Good luck. Nicola x |

Posted: 03/27/07 - 10:50 Post subject: Same symptoms |
| I am suffering from the same symptoms. I have had GERD before but I have never felt this way. I have been suffering from dry and pain in my throat. I have also had a cough, and problems breathing. At frist I thought I had allergies, then I started feeling pain when I swallow right on the edge of my right shoulder blade. It is towards the center of my upper back, but mainly on my right blade. It is very annoying! If you find out more, please post it since I cannot afford a doctor. |

| I am experiencing exactly the same thing..and it came out of nowhere. I am very active and train for powerlifting meets. Needless to say I earn plenty of frequent flyer miles at my local Chiropractor to adjust neck and back. About 5 days ago during lunch I swallowed and felt a jolt, almost electric shock like pain on the left side of my throat when food touched it..the shocklike pain shot straight into my left upper pectoral muscle and I could also feel it just below my left shoulderblade. Not knowing what to do I went back to my Chiropractor and he was puzzled.. we tried neck and back adjustments to see if a nerve was pinched.. my back and neck are normal but swallowing harder foods is still quite the experience. To the point that I am chewing everything, even pills that are meant to be swallowed whole to avoid the shock. The best way I can describe the pain is an electric shock.. It would be good if there are any MD's on here that could give me some pointers. |

Posted: 08/13/07 - 09:46 Post subject: Seeing Gastroenterologist today because I cannot swallow foo |
I just began experiencing difficulty in swallowing but I do not have the shoulder/neck/back pain others have listed. I haven't had a solid meal since nearly a week ago because everything gets stuck.
I am scheduled to see a gastroenterologist today! I am scared but excited to have someone finally look down my throat and see what is going on. I have a suspicion that it is due to GERD. My husband and I have terrible eating habits and eat too late at night and also do not eat the most healthiest of meals. This can cause acid reflux which can cause the tightening of the esophagus.
My mom had been diagnosed with Barretts esophagus last year and had surgery to remove her esophagus. She is 78 years old and is doing very well. She is cancer free!
I will let you know tomorrow what happened. |
