Our 3 1/2 old who is fully potty trained both day and night and therefore is NOT in pull ups nor do we use wipes has the exact same problem. Our pediatritian said that it was strep butt as well and gave antibiotics for him and said that we are to use antibacterial ointment on the actual pimples. He also did say that strep butt is hard to iradicate due to the location... (No matter how clean you try to keep it, it is the butt after all) And that it many times takes several treatments before it goes away... So, he advised us that is the antibiotics are almost done and there is any sign of it yet, to immediately come back so that the treatment won't stop.

Hope this helps...

I was changing my two year old and I notice small pimples on his butt. It did not look like diaper rash but I treated it like diaper rash. Now I notice that the pimples are on the back of his thighs and a couple on his knee caps. When I touch them he crys. He does not have a fever. Any clues on what these painful bumps are???? Crying or Very sad

I have the same problem with my 3 years old and I do not know what it is. we went to the doctore but she could not say anything what it could be.

My daughter is 6 and has for the past several months large pimples on her legs and buttocks. My husband and I were diagnosed with community MRSA last year (a type of staph). I immediately suspected, but have not been able to get a positive culture. Request that your doctor have a culture taken when the pimples are oozing. this is critical but hard to predict. I bathe her daily with a mild soap and warm water. after bath and in the morning i use a topical antibiotic effective for CMRSA. It seems to help lessen the severity, but still they return. I am waiting for a diagnosis.

My son is 23 months old - in diapers and has had the same weird pimples on his bottom and thighs that many of you are discribing. He has had it for close to 3 months and been on anti-biotics off and on for 2 1/2 months. He has been to numerous doctors - most did not know what it was but two have agreed it's staph infection. When on the antibiotic it is better but does not go away completely... I am terrified for him to be on these antibiotics for this long... I appreciate your posts and am going to try Monistat as one writer suggested.

I think you mean Molluscum contagiosum not Molstum. Molluscum contagiosum is painless though so if your child is in pain it is not Molluscum contagiosum.

It's heat rash. From being hot. Ranges from a small red dot to a gigantic looking pimple. Loose, or absent clothing is the cure. They can get or keep heat rash year round if they are over dressed, over-swadled(not sure about spelling), or over-snuggled (like on the face of a nursing baby), or even sleeping between two warm parents. It seems to happen on my daughter in high-friction or high-contact areas more often, and since this heat-wave, in her diaper area.

Before it went away it got very large and I ended up popping it.

While thankfully my daughter does not suffer from this, I have had a bad staff infection before and can tell you the WORST thing you can do is try to "pop" one of the sores. All this does is burst the infection into the blood stream and spread more sores. If you fear your child has a staff infection get them to the doc and BE PERSISTENT to have them test for staff. If it is staff antibiotics and keeping the child extra clean is the only thing that will cure it. I would caution against any "experimenting" on your own with sores as you could very easily make matters worse and more painful for your child. When in doubt take them to the doc and understand these days you need to be a bit pushy to get the attention your child deserves. Good luck to you all and best wishes for your children!

PostPosted: 07/16/08 - 08:45    Post subject: pimples on my toddlers bum Vote now! Reply with quote

My 2 1/2 year old also had these small pimples on her bum, upper legs and now a few on her knees. I tried everything to get them to go away before taking her to a doctor....they really just looked like acne and she started to get them when the weather turned much hotter for the summer. I think maybe sweat was a major factor in causing the pimples...possibly some form of heat rash. I even tried popping one which was VERY big to see if that would help (not the best idea), and it only her my daughter and really didn't improve the pimple at all.

Finally I took her to the pediatrician, who didn't know what it was, but she suggested two things. One was an all natural Calendula cream, which you can buy at any health foods store, and it really helped my daughter with the irritation. THe other was a prescription for a Mupirocin Ointment which I think was mostly an anti-bacterial cream to put on her bum twice a day.

I'm not sure if it was one or a combination of both which worked, but the pimples are completely gone and haven't come back. Maybe other moms with a similar problem could try these and see if it was luck for me or if this really is a solution.
