Hello, I am 50 years old and I have started to have irregular periods. I went to doctor just to exclude several not so mild conditions. He told me that my menopause is near, and mentioned that hormonal therapy might be an option. I have my doubts about that, ever since I have heard that it increases the risk of cancer. I am getting paranoid about HRT, should I be?
You must know that HRT is not necessary therapy. It is recommended to women, but whether they will accept it, it is only their decision. Risk of cancer could be slightly increased indeed, but that is all relative fact, because the exact cause of cancer remains unknown. HRT is a very effective with cardiovascular diseases and several other menopause symptoms and can really help women pass this period of life more easily.
