Are the symptoms of Parotidits always the same or depend on causal agent? I use to have tender parotid glands almost every 4-5 weeks. I avoid taking antibiotics that often. I’m 35 and have never been in hospital before. Is surgical treatment recommended in my age? Is it done with local or general anesthesia?
I had surgical removal of parotid glands when I was 12. It was done with general anesthesia. But I think that it’s done with local anesthesia in elder patients. It’s really routine operation, you shouldn’t be worried. And as I know, viral parotitis is mumps in fact, and bacterial is one that is recurrent and causes pain and swelling over the glands.
