Hi I am a 55 year old female. Period stopped 3 months ago, but came back spotting during time when period normally is due. Now I have been bleeding for about 10 days passing dark blood, at times it's bright but mostly dark.
I had the endometrial (sp) test about 3 years ago for bleeding and it was negative. I have also had regular yearly pap smears, all negative. I had the ultrasound of uterus about 5 years ago and it was negative, other than a few fibroids. I passed what seemed to have been pieces of tissue about 1 year ago with brown discharge for almost weekly for about 2 months. When to Nurse Practioner who did pap smear and said she felt certain it was the fibroid shrinking and the lining of the uterus passing getting ready for menopause. I have always been told I have a polyp on the opening of my cervix, but it was fine and test showed no problem.
Went to doctor yesterday and was told that she thought the polyp was still there but a stalk (stem) appears to be coming out of the uterus. How long does the test (ultra sound and or edometial (biospy of lining of uterus) need to be redone. Is it necessary to do one every year? Is is likely that the polyp has grown into the uterus and is benign? Just trying to seek some answers.
