Recent study found that people who suffer from migraine have ticker part of the brain which is responsible for sensory informations. Study measured thickness of that part of the brain and found that people who suffer from heavy migraines have 20% ticker sometosensory cortex than normal people.

Research involved 24 patients. Half of them experienced loss of vision, numbness or flickering lights. Results were compared with people who didn’t suffer from migraines and they showed that thickness of SSC was higher in people who suffer from migraines than in the ones that don’t.

Previous research determined that repeated migraines may cause structural changes in the brain and many people who suffer from migraines since their childhood have the long term stimulation of sensory part of the brain and that could explain these changes and why are they more sensitive to stimulation.

Results of this study may help in explaining high occurrence of some other disorders in people who suffer from migraines such as fibromyalgia and back pain.
