Peripheral Neuropathy and Allopurinol

Hi, my friend is suffering from peripheral neuropathy for several months. He is 56 years old and he told me that he is using allopurinol for several years because of gout he suffers from too. He has difficulties while he is walking and I would like to help him if it is possible. I heard that allopurinol may cause peripheral neuropathy so I hope there are people who have more experience about it.

Hi, it is very hard to say if your friend is suffering from peripheral neuropathy because of allopurinol. There were some studies which were dealing with this problem but direct connection between allopurinol and peripheral neuropathy never was confirmed. Its been said that 1% of people how use allopurinol for a long time may experience peripheral neuropathy.
