Peripheral neuropathy after stem cell transplantation

Hello. I'm 45 year old male and recently, during regular urine examination at my work, doctor found that I have more proteins in my urine that I should. Doctor sent me to some other testings and after few days, he set the final diagnosis. He said that I suffer from some serious disease called multiple myeloma.
That is one kind of bone cancer and it affected my immune system so it became weak.
So, he suggested me some autologous blood stem cell transplantation
and that will make my bone cells normal.
SO, I was wondering are there any known side effects of this operation.

Well, like you said, multiple myeloma is one very serious disease.
It is a cancer of the plasma cell, an important part of the immune system that produces immunoglobulins (antibodies) to help fight infection and disease.
The abnormal plasma cells do not protect the body from infections.
Yes, autologous blood stem cell transplantation is an option for you.
There shouldn’t be any side effects of this operation but I can say that my brother, who had this operation a few months ago, had some unpleasant experiences after it.
A severe peripheral, symmetric, distal sensory-motor polyneuropathy appeared at day 25 and worsened progressively until commencement of corticosteroid therapy.
Ultra structural examination showed acute axonal damage.
So, you might wonna talk with your doctor about this, because he will not tell you anything about this by him self.
