Posted: 02/23/07 - 15:42 Post subject: My son has Pineal Cyst |
|
|
| My 9 yr. old son was diagnosed with a Pineal Cyst about 2 yrs. ago and 2 doctors said it was nothing to be concerned with. He was given the MRI because of his unexplained poor vision. Since then my son has been getting occasional headaches, his vision has not improved (the doctors said the cyst has nothing to do with his poor vision) and he has recently been diagnosed with OCD. He now has been hearing people, including myself, calling his name when nobody has called him. He thinks he hears his younger sister calling out for me sometimes as well. I am now wondering if his cyst could have anything to do with these other issues? Is there anybody out there that could inform me one way or another? I have read that there are procedures to treat a Pineal Cyst but I am not a doctor and have been unable to understand fully what they are and what is involved in the treatment. I find myself worried now and think that maybe the doctors haven't given me all the information I need. Any comments are welcome please! April |

Posted: 03/04/07 - 08:22 Post subject: My 9 year old daughter has cyst too |
|

My daughter is prone to headaches, but if she is hungry and she eats or if you give her some Motrin they go away within an hour. Last week for seven days straight she had severe headaches and then vomiting and a high fever. After 2 visits to the doctors office, I finally took her to our hospital that has a Pediatric E.R. They said that her headaches were probably from a flu. But, upon my insistance, they did a CAT scan and found that she had a small cyst on her penial gland. They too, keep telling me not to worry and that it is NOT the reason for her headaches.
We are still early in the process and she is scheduled for an M.R.I. tomorrow, which they said will tell us more about the cyst. Since I live in a suburb of Chicago her doctor gave me the names of three pediatric neuro-surgeons, two of which are at Children's Memorial Hospital, which is said to be one of the best in the area. So, after she gets the MRI I will make an appointment with one of them, if not two and am interested in knowing how they treat this cyst if it begins to grow. I read on line that with other types of brain cysts they can put a shunt in to let it drain but they didn't say much about this type of condition.
Through this process, however, I too have been very frustrated at how the doctors treat this as though it is nothing. Something very minor and while I am hoping they are right, as a mom I am still hesitant to believe them.

| Thank you for your reply. I have another MRI scheduled in about 10 days from now and I have contacted 2 doctors at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. One is a neuro-surgeon. As soon as I get the information from the MRI and the doctors I will post again. Again, thank you for the reply. April |

| I agree with all of you. After six months of blurry vision and being tested for MS and finding out it was migraines I was also told I had a Pineal Cyst but it had nothing to do with my symptoms. I still have blurry vision. After six full months of blurry vision I got back but it still comes and goes, I have run into walls, I am more drowsy then usual, moodier than usual, I get a lot pressure in the back of my head, I have nausea and pretty much all the same symptoms that you have all mentioned. I get the same response. I have another appt at the end of July to schedule my second MRI to see if the cyst is growing. I too am VERY concerned that this is causing my problems. How can I go from being healthy to feeling like my head is going to blow up sometimes? You can tell the difference from a headache and pressure buildup and the difference from a headache and loss of balance! |

| I have gone to the Neurologist just this last Wednesday. He says that my migrane headaches - memory disburbances and also the dizziness is caused by the cyst. Mine is 17mm. They should never be over .5mm. He is referring me to a neurosurgeon. I want this thing out. He told me they go through your nose to remove it. That is how they remove your pitutary gland and it is right behind it. Hopefully they will agree with me and remove it. |

Hi everyone! I am so frusturated right now I can hardly see straight....Ok so I have been going to my GP doctor for a year and a half and have had bad headaches for eight years now. I just thought they were due to stress or whatever so I never really did anything except 8 years ago I got a spinal tap and it was neg for swelling in the brain I guess. So recently They have gotten very bad...I am a mother of three active boys, married, and a full time student working towards my RN degree. So as you can see I do not have time for pain. I feel as though my head is under a lot of pressure....my eyes feel like there is pressure behind them and my ears ache, yet I don't have an ear infection. I get dizzy when I get up to fast and I am very tired often! I went and finally convinced my Dr to give me an MRI and they found a CYST on my Pineal Gland the cyst is 1.9x1.7x1.8 cm well defined with low T1 high T2 weighted cyst. There is some mild mass effect as right lateral ventricle is more prominent size. So I went to a nurosurgeon and he said that it is ok they are rare but they are not causing all my symptoms.....WHAT!!!! does any doctor read these forums my gosh!! one thing we all have in common is headaches and dizzy spells.... So I said I would like a second opinion because he has only seen this two times....needless to say he is not an expert on it. I will let you all know what the next guy says! Thanks for listening |

| I have had a MRI 4 months ago and a CT three days ago. My Penial cyst has gone from 0.8cm to 1cm. Yet it is considered benine. I to have chronic headaches, with the feeling of pressure/numbness on the top of my head, along with occasional blurred vision is there really nothing to do? My Neurologist currently has me on Tegretol XR. He has tried Neurontin, and Lyrica, with no help help from my symptoms. What can a person do? |

Posted: 10/13/07 - 01:00 Post subject: Headaches and inability to sleep due to Pineal Gland Cyst? |
|
|
| Hello all. I am a 27 year old female and I was recently diagnosed with a pineal gland cyst with enhancement. I do not know what this means and am having a hard time getting any answers. For the past two months I have had terrible headaches and am unable to sleep soundly. My doctor told me that this cyst had formed within the past 2 to 3 months, but that my sypmtoms were probably not due to the cyst. I am finding that if I ask any questions the basic response is its so big deal, but I beg to differ. If anyone can give me any help or advice I would greatly appreciate it! I don't know whether I should worry about this or not. I am told that my cyst has its own blood supply so does that mean ti will continue to grow? and if so what then? |
