My brother was diagnosed pituitary diabetes insipidus. I would like to hear more about this disease. I know some facts about diabetes, but have never heard about its relation to pituitary gland. Is it also insulin dependant syndrome? Please post about this. Thanks.

Pituitary diabetes insipidus is not related to diabetes mellitus. Term diabetes is commonly used to name diabetes mellitus, but DI is something else. Symptoms are polyuria and polydipsia in both cases. Pituitary gland has role to control releasing hormones in human body. Vasopresin is hormone that is responsible for retaining of water in human body. There is lack of vasopressin in this form of diabetes, also called central DI. And in diabetes mellitus, there is lack of insulin and problem with control level of sugar in blood.
