Previous studies have already found benefits of Mediterranean diet on people’s health and some countries who are leaders in olive – oil production claim that incidence of diseases is lower in these countries than in countries where people don’t use olive oil so much. Researchers used during the study most advanced techniques for finding antioxidant properties of olive oil and found polyphenolic compounds which are able to combat degenerative diseases.

Researchers claim that consumption of olive oil rich in polyphenols improves lives of people who suffer from oxidative stress. They say it is also good for prevention of cell aging and osteoporosis. Scientists analyzed samples from 15 olive oil mills and demonstrated the fact that olive oil is very rich in polyphenols. Polyphenols from olive oil are proved to be helpful in combating any oxidative disease which is associated with degenerative process.

After this study was finished researchers began to investigate similar studies such as creation of a system aimed at guaranteeing the quality of bee honey and determining its geographical origin. Researchers also began to investigate polyphenolic characterization of food products such as honey, beer and propolis.
