I previously posted "Posted: 02/01/07 - 15:11 Post subject: post-op after gallbladder removal" and thought I would add a few new observations.
After about 3 months, the constant diarrhea has stopped. Still comes and goes at times, but more normal function at last! I do get strong cramps - and gas, at times. Getting to the bathroom at work quick enough (and hoping for an empty stall!!!) is tricky, but I am feeling more normal and definitely less painful. Still not great, but I had a LOT of unusual problems, with bile leaking internally, etc. Lots of drain holes to heal up on my stomach. They had to drain an "abcess" of loose fluid a couple of weeks ago. I guess it had been there all along, since the operation, but it pooled on my left side and got uncomfortable. Yet another puncture through the abdominal wall. Yuck.
Happy to say that the stent in my bile duct was removed two days ago. Except for a sore throat, and provided nothing new happens, I am DONE with all that mess.
I am eating more - to the point of starting to re-gain some weight (yikes!), so I have to watch myself a little more on portions and choices. Still not crazy about bread-y stuff but can eat it okay. I sure do miss enjoying pizza!
Good luck to all out there! |

I m 33 male from Pakistan. I was feeling pain in upper abdomen and the ultra sound revealed that I had gallstones. I underwent LAPOROSCOPIC Surgery (in which only 3 small incisions are made in the abdomen and disposible miniature camera and other delicate instruments are introduced into the abdomen to remove the gallbladder. Only one night stay required at the hospital and one can go home next day: even one can have it as an outdoor patient. The pain is neglegible as compared to open surgery).
I am very much normal now and the pain has gone for ever. On the advice of my Doctor, I am taking my normal and routine diet from 5 days after the operation and there is no probem at all.
I suggest that if you have any problem from gallstones then dont wait, go and remove it. Life is quite normal without it. |

Ladies & Gentlemen
I had my gall bladder out in 2005 and went through some huge changes. I suppose I have to acknowledge that whilst mine occurred during pregnancy, it was my diet which caused me to need the surgery. I have now radically changed my diet and decreased my portion sizes. I weigh 65kgs. My diet used to be high in everything. I was young and healthy and never wieghed over 60kgs. It was a big shock to have gall bladder problems. I am still changing my diet and portions to try to find that happy medium. I have only had issues with diarrhoea when I have eaten too much fat content food. If anything at times I have the opposite where I think I am not eating enough fat and then doing little bullets instead. This is just as annoying but maybe not as debiliating as the diarrhoea. I am sad that there is not more information here for me, but I will keep looking. |

I am so happy I found this website. I had my gallbladder removed about 4 weeks ago and I can't seem to eat anything except bread, salad, meat, fruit and oatmeal!! I used to be able to anything that I wanted. I always feel hungry. I love fried food and can't eat it, unless I want extreme cramps and diarhhea!! LOL. Well, I guess the above diet is healthy, but it doesn't seem to fill me up!!
Thanks for all your posts, I don't feel alone anymore. |

| I had my gallbladder removed two years ago and every since I had the surgery immediately after I eat anything I have to use the restroom. It is extremely embrassing for me because, I use the restroom so much at work until the workers know when I am going to the bathroom to do no#2. and may I add I am the only female at work. I have notice whenever I eat hamburgers or any red meat the bathroom trips are more frequent. The bathroom trips are not as frequent whenever I eat fish or chicken. |

I am shocked at some of the posts I am reading here. I had my gall bladder removed 3 1/2 months ago. It was the biggest mistake of my life. It's amazing what doctors will tell you to scare you into having your gallbladder removed.
It is unnecessary. After I had the surgery the doctor said that everything would be normal again .....yada, yada, yada. Well the pains came back and alot of other symptoms became worse. I started doing some research online. There are diets to naturally remove gallstones. It was are own fault eating the way we did or drinking to much alcohol and living unhealthy lifestyles.
I began going to a Naturopath who prescibed some natural medicines. I also began a new diet consisting of mostly raw organic veggies and some fuits. lots of greens. Organic free-range chicken and harmone free/antibiotic free beef. I drink kefir(whuch I have learned how to make myself) and eat raw yogourt(make it myself). These two have lots of probiotcs. I can go on and on but you should be able to find some info online.
Please people. Inform yourselves. I know it's hard to give up some og the food you love but your life depends on it. I have lost 25 lbs since my gallbladder surgery. i feel great. Go to www.mercola.com. You will find some very useful information. Find yourself a natural doctor. A little exercise will work wonders.
Take control.

Hello!
My gallbladder was removed week ago. I still have little diarrhea and belching. I was told to eat in small amounts and especially not fats. I am doing that, but still have diarrhea. Am I going anything wrong? Is it normal to have diarrhea after gallbladder surgery? What am I supposed to eat?

I had my gall bladder removed 8 years ago. I experienced sudden diarrhea after meals only 3 or 4 times a year. But then about a year ago it started to happen more frequently to 3 or 4 times a week within the past year. I only have diarrhea in the mornings and after lunch. Evenings are just bloating and gas.
I am a high school teacher and had a horribly embarrasing moment on a field trip when there was no bathroom available and I did not make it. The bus ride back to school was miserable. At that point, I stopped eating during the day. I have lost an extreme amount of weight. Friends are starting to ask if I am anorexic.
I went to a gastro 6 months ago and specifically asked for cholestyramine after doing some research on the web. She advised against it and told me to stick to "exercise and high fiber diet, see you in six months".
I switched to a different gastro. He has suggested I have Celiac Sprue (allergy to wheat) and put me on a wheat free/lactose free diet. Only problem is - all that stuff contains a lot of fat and no fiber.
I seemed to do better over the summer (less stress, closer bathrooms), but now that school is started - all symptoms are back and I have lost more weight. I go back to the gastro in a few days and am going to strongly suggest the cholestyramine again.
I hate to say this, but I am glad I am not alone or crazy. I hope you all get to feeling better. I will let you know if I am. |

| Guest wrote: | | I had my gallbladdar removed March 12, 2006. Prevously I've had Irritable Bowel Syndrome since I was 9 years old. I am now 21. Since the removal of my gallbladdar, I have had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. I've lost jobs due to being in the bathroom. I'l lbe ok for 2-5 days, then get sick with diarehea and nausea and be tired. Doctors are crazy "oh its the flu" - my IBS has been under control, and I've only had these reaccuring problems since my gallbladdar has been out. I take 2-4 Immodium a day - nothing works! I'm scheduling my seocnd scope / colonoscopy!! SOMETHING HAS GOTTA BE DONE - anyone have any suggestions? |
My mother had the same problem after her surgery. She tried a celiac diet, not becasue a doctor suggested it, but because she thought it might stop her agony. I'd try a celiac diet. It takes a couple of months for the intestines to recover from the wheat, and sometimes oats as well. If it doesn't work for you, no harm no foul, but if that improves your condition you will at least know what is wrong with you. If that doesn't work, it could be a dairy allergy.
Mom ate grits and a banana for breakfast every day. Salads and nuts for lunch, and a lot of potatoes or brown rice for dinner. You still have to get fiber, so lots of fruits and veggies. It stinks, b/c no typical chocolate or cakes. Slim fast has a product called "easy to digest". That is gluten and lactose free, so she used to make smoothies with those and whatever frozen fruit she was in the mood for. Many stores are starting to carry gluten free products, but many of them are salty. Amy's makes pizzas with crust made from rice flour, but they do have cheese.
I am sorry you have these problems and I hope you find a solution. |

Hello,
I had my gallbladder out 10 days ago, I'm reading all of these comments from people and am I the only one in the world who is constipated? I've even eaten some fatty foods and no affects. I'm not sure what to eat, where does the fat go now? |
