Hi, my friend is 47 years old and he had total colectomy last week. He was active basketball player for a years and I am concerned if he will be able to fit in this new way of life. I would like to know something more about life and demands after colonectomy as I would like to hell him. Thank you.

Hi, my father also had colectomy but I am very satisfied with his recovering process. It is very important to know that you have to avoid some food which may cause diarrhea like some fresh fruits, beans and so. However it is understandable that your friend will have to change some eating habits. Also he has to use to colostomy which may be temporary or permanent depending of length of bowel which will be removed. I may suggest some supportive groups which may be very helpful in such situations.
