| Soo i got my tonsils and adnoids out 12 days ago.. still in a little pain when I swallow but the worst is when I try to talk! I sound like I am deaf.. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, I find that the pain is more in my ears than anywhere else... Let me know if this is normal |

I had my tonsils out 8 days ago and have had nothing but problems. On day 3 my tongue swelled up so large i couldn't swollow anything, even water. After going to the hospital and having an iv with benidryl and pain killers was able to go home. On day 5 the lack of solid food and amount of pain killers caused me to start vomiting (very painful) so back to the hospital.
Today I am able to get some normal food, although very little as I am full quickly. My problem is my tongue, which is now normal size, but is numb on the sides. Has anyone had this problem? |

Wow, get ready for the pain was no joke! I too have had to go to the hospital and have Fluids and anti-nausea pushed via IV on night 3. I had my tonsils and adnoids removed the morning of Feb 16th. I became dehydrated because I slept more than stayed awake to drink water. The first two days weren't bad, sore, but good meds. Yesterday and today though, not good. I can't have anything too sweet - vitamin water, gatorade or smoothies, nothing really much more than water. I too have had the swollen, numb, tasteless tonge thing happening. Headaches and body aches. This is a horrible experience and I can't believe kids used to go through it all the time!
Things that have helped: tiny sips of water all the time, never without a bottle, ice cubes/chips for mornings when you can't swallow yet, wakingn 2 -3 times in the night for water and meds, chicken noodle soup.. in my feeble attempt to eat the pasta, you end up drinking all the broth, ice pack on the throat (outside) and/or use of "BIOFREEZE" really helps me, coupled with popsicles etc to numb inside and out.
I can't wait for this to be over! Good Luck everyone!! |

|

I am 36 years old and after having 5 step infections a year for 5 years I decided to have my tonsils removed. I was expecting the intense pain experienced during my worst strep infections, but thus far my throat is quite sore but not as bad as a strep infection.
It is day 7 after my surgery and I ache all over. I still feel quite tired and I am only eating scrambled eggs, cool noodles (cheese ravoli), and lots of orange sherbert along with apple juice. The sherbert helps to numb my throat and it is the only food I truly enjoy for the numbing benefits.
I am taking hydroco/acet every 3 hours. It takes the edge off the pain but it does not completely make it disappear. The one side effect that is most annoying to me is my stomach. My stomach constantly churns, bubbles, and growls. I have horrible diareaha. Anyone else have this? I am chalking it up to a water based diet...i was hoping adding noodles would help a little. I am a tad nervous about returning to work with an upset stomach! I am back to work in 6 more days...hopefully the mornings will get better cause right now mornings are the WORST in terms of throat, body and tummy pain. |

| I go my tonsils taken out on the 6th and i'm in so much pain. I'm 22 and where my tonsils were it's all nasty and green. I am so hungry and was really constipated. Bits and pieces of my scabs are coming off and if you get the hiccups, you wanna shoot yourself in the mouth. My ears are killing me, and for some reason, they snipped off my uvula. |

| day 4 of recovery (?) and the pain is almost unbearable. On waking from the surgery I had some discomfort but it was managable and thought to myself everything was going to be a breeze from here on in. I even discharged myself early and caught a train home (not advisable). Arrived home, said hi to to the family, sat down to dinner, tomato soup and bread, I had taken enough risks for one day, watched a bit of tv and then off to bed. Woke up Friday morning with a bit of a sore throat still nothing to write home about, even had a cigarette!!. Breakfast and medication followed and then took the dog for a walk. Midday approached and brought hell with it. I think the only way to try to duplicate the pain is to push some rusty six inch nails into a potato and then try to swollow it. To cancel out the pain I was prescribed codine (30mg) and paracetamol (2x500mg) and Diclofenac. The weekend was just a painful clockwatching exercise, every four hours reaching for the codine and paracetamol and praying to god I could sleep some of the four hours til the next fix! and thats without the stomach cramps I was getting from the Diclofenac. On a final note, was anyone informed about the bleeding we have to deal with when the scab breaks away?. I suppose it will all be worth it in the long run and to all fellow recoverers, I salute you. get well soon!! |
