An 11-year-old girl Madeline Neumann, who suffered from a treatable form of diabetes, died after her parents chose to pray for healing over seeking medical help. The girl hasn’t seen a doctor since she was three and of course hasn’t been diagnosed with the disease.

Autopsy results confirmed that the girl died from diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition that develops when a person’s body has too little insulin. The main investigator reported that she had probably been ill for about a month, suffering symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness. She got sicker and sicker until she died.

Her parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann who claim not to be religious fanatics or belong to an organized religion, believe that the girl died because “apparently they didn’t have enough faith.” They didn’t want to call the doctors but kept praying for the little girl to get better.

The police were informed about the girl’s condition by her aunt from California who contacted the Police Department out of concerns about the girl’s health and asked police to check on her nice and by some family friends. However, it was too late. Madeline was pronounced dead after being taken to Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston.

The girl’s death is still under investigation and the results will be forwarded to the district attorney to determine if any crime was committed.

The girl’s mother kept saying that her daughter was in good health until recently and that tiredness was noticed during the past two weeks but that it suddenly went to a more serious condition. They didn’t seem to think much of it as they believed she would recover by the God’s will.

The girl was survived by her parents and three older siblings. The girl’s mother reported that faith was giving them strength at this time and that they were not worried about the investigation because their lives were in God's hands.
