Hi. I have just found out I am infected with HIV. I am 2 months pregnant. I would like to hear more info about pregnancy and HIV. Is there anybody with experience? Please reply…

Hi. I am 9 weeks pregnant and I too have found out about HIV. The transmission of HIV from mother to unborn baby can occur in utero during the last week of pregnancy and labor. If you don`t treat your condition, you have to know the transmission during pregnancy and labor is 25%. If you access to antiretroviral therapy and give birth by caesarean section, the rate transmission is only one percent. Breastfeeding increases the risk up to 15%. So, antiretroviral drugs, caesarean delivery and formula feeding reduce the chance of transmission to your baby. You should avoid breastfeeding.
