Hello, I am 30 years old and my hubby is 33. We have been married 19 months and we are trying to conceive. We have been trying for well over a year and my doctor says that we are now prime candidates for fertility testing, but we don't have the money for this kind of testing. Is there anything that we can try without a prescription that could boost our fertility. We have done all the suggested ideas, i.e., hubby wearing loose fitting boxes and pants and even tried abstinence until I ovulate. But nothing has worked.

Ever since I started my periods, they have been irregular unless I am on the pill, which would defeat the purpose of getting pregnant. Just in the last 4-5 months I have been having a regular period. This month I started on the 13th, but I had severe diarhea, which I assumed was the stomach virus wich is going around in this area. I have ran a slight grade of fever, but I have noticed for the past 4 nights, I would wake up and be drenched with sweat. Last night I did not have any fever to my knowledge and I woke up this morning wet with sweat again.

I guess my question is, could I be going through early menopause? I have had one hot flash and that occured last month right before my period. My mother told me that it was probably from my hormones fluctuating due to my period. Could someone please help me to ease my mind either way. I really appreciate your time, thank you.

Look, I don’t think you are going through a menopause but just like your mom said, it could be due to your period but it could also be the virus because I have had the same symptoms for the last few nights, sweating with no fever, insomnia, lack of energy and I am certain I am not going through early menopause. I am not saying that you may not be but I honestly think it’s either a virus or dropping levels of hormones after your period.

As for your fertility testing, I think you should talk to your gynecologist and see what kind of tests you can have that are not so expensive and you may have yourself checked first. For example, you may test FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) levels by performing a blood test. FSH levels rise when the ovaries are not producing enough estrogen and if the levels are high, you will know that you are experiencing problems with ovulation, or that your ovaries are failing, or that you are entering menopause.
If you have insurance, you may be ( I don’t know exactly how it works, I guess it depends from country to country) have some of the hormonal testing for free or at low price.

Have you already talked about prices with a doc? I don’t know if it’s the testing or the treatment that is expensive.

How do you feel about all natural options? There is a great website that sells a natural fertility enhancer. The website is called natural remedies. You can get a male/female kit for both of you for under $70.
