Hi there,

If your bf didn't ejaculate or pre-ejaculate inside of you, and if you had your period afterwards, there is only a very, very, very slim chance that you could be pregant. Sperm doesn't live for a very long time in the outside world- if it feels the open air, it dies pretty quick.

The spotting you experienced around the time of your ovulatory phase, is likely nothing to worry about either- so many things can affect a woman's cycle, that it's hard to know when it's time to worry. So with spotting, I usually choose not to worry, unless it happens for more than one cycle in a row. If you were on antibiotics, you may have had a drop in hormone levels, which could cause you to spot. Or, if you were feeling very stressed out because of your Pregnancy fears, you could have actually caused both the shorter timespan of your period and also the spotting.

In other words, you are likely not pregnant. BUT, if you will not be able to rest until you know, then take a test. Home Pregnancy tests can be taken 4 days before an expected period. Or you can get a blood test done, either at your doctor's office, or at a Planned Parenthood clinic (where most of the time it's free!). Tests are good, because they are 99.9% accurate. So if it says you aren't pregnant, you aren't.

One more thing- I know in my own experience, I began enjoying sex a whole lot more, once I knew I was protected- I went on the pill, which is 99.5% effective against pregnancy, and immediately my fears of becoming pregnant were alleviated. Partially because it's pretty hard to get pregnant while on the pill, and partially because the pill will regulate your system so that your period's date of expected arrival is fairly set-in-stone. So, while you aren't having intercourse, meaning your actual risk for Pregnancy is VERY low, you might talk to your bf and doctor about going on the pill, to save yourself from any more sleepless nights!!

Peace,
KAt

Hi again,

Unofortunately, the notion that virgins have less of a chance for becoming pregnant, is a complete myth. There is no change that happens to a woman's body in the act of first sexual intercourse that makes her more fertile. Fertility comes in puberty. And once you are fertile, you can become pregnant, on your first time or your fiftieth. So when you do decide to have sex, make sure you are protected!

Be well,
KAt.
