I am a thirty-eight year old woman who recently missed two periods and along with this came hot flashes, night sweats and a lot of anxiety and irritation with everything. I spoke to my husband about this and decided to visit the doctor, they drew blood and tested me and said my hormone levels put me in the peri-menpausal state. My husband and I had decided to have one more child before I reached forty, but now I don't know if I can. My question is, since I missed my period for two months now, will I be able to still get pregnant? I am obvioulsy not producing an egg to be fertilized or I would have my menstrual cycle, right? Since I am in pre-menapause, and my periods could be on and off, I will never know which month I will get my period or not, if I do at all again, so how do I plan for pregnancy?

Hi! I am not sure you can plan now. Considering you are already 38 and the chances of getting pregnant are fewer, I would suggest you tried for a few months and then visited a fertility clinic if your mind is set to have another baby.

Who knows how long it may take you to get pregnant now when you can’t plan. It takes up to a year for a healthy young couple to get pregnant. Your eggs are probably less mature now and it may be harder for you to conceive even if you were ovulating.

The older you are the bigger chances of medical problems for you and for your baby. It would be best if you started preparing right away in order to prevent any possible risks.

A fertility clinic could help you enhance your fertility and help you get pregnant.
