Hi, I am diagnosed with Parkinson disease, and a doctor prescribed me carbidopa and levodopa. I heard that levodopa is used for this condition, but I have no idea why he prescribed me carbodopa. Any ideas?

Hi, my father-in-law suffers from Parkinson’s disease. He also uses both carbidopa and levodopa, like many other patients. Carbidopa is not necessary, but it’s used because it has a great role in treating Parkinson’s disease. It prevents the breakdown of levodopa before it can reach the brain and take effect. However, levodopa can be used alone, and it is turned into dopamine in the body. This is important because Parkinson's disease is related to low levels of dopamine in the brain. My father-in-law uses 1 tablet three times a day, but a doctor mentioned that he might change the dose. If I were you, I would stick to the doctor’s advice.
