Hello, there. My brother was diagnosed anal cancer. I think he has no metastatic lesions. Doctors suggest surgery. I would like to know whether preserving sphincter muscle is possible with local resecrion surgery. I would really appreciate if anyone knew something about this. Hi to you too. As far as I know preserving the sphincter muscle with local resection surgery is not possible. That is why doctors recommend radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Radiation therapy can be external or internal (intestinal). Some patients are recommended combined both radiation and chemo. It is the most efficient treatment option. Of course, some toxicity is to be expected. I hope your brother will recover. Please, let me know what he decides. Bye!
