yea i love only the frosted type of ice cubes and i dont knoe why. i think im anemic cuz im 17 and i do tend to have irregular periods. im already epileptic and i dont like the idea of having to take more pills esp the iron ones cuz i had to take those before bcuz my mom just made me and they tasted horrible.
Now knowing all this im kinda pissed to be honest. i guess im just glad there are a lot of women out there who are like me and that im not "weird" for eating ice. But i dunno, i only like the ice that tastes like my freezer, any other ice is rlly gross to me. i guess ill just get checked out. Cool
i have a question though, if i try to stop eating ice..will i go into withdraws or something or like will i get more anemic?

I LOVE ICE too! I have always liked ice, but it just started getting annoying when we got a new fridge with an ice crusher.
No, you will not go through withdrawls or become more anemic as ice has nothing in it. You might however just find a different annoying habit. Ice eating is by far better than, say, smoking.
I too like my ice crushed and softend, but I use diet rootbeer to soften it. It's like eating a yummy fat free desert.
I also feel the gassy build up in my stomach. It is because when you crunch and swallow, you are also swallowing air along with the ice. I would say a side affect of eating ice.
I eat it ice for nerves. If I am not eating ice, I am putting something else into my mouth. Better ice than say...chocolate.
It is bad for your teeth. It causes them stress to be cold for so long and then heating and then cold and heating up. They definitly could chip. It doesn't hurt their enamel though.
My fingernails also turn blue...but my hands are always cold...not due to the ice. They have always been like that.
I am not enimic, but for all means, if you think you are, get in and take your iron. Health food stores make great iron pills that don't cause constipation. Your body needs blood to run properly....Very important!
I suppose my only question is have any of you found that your toungue has a permanent numbness to it or have you found any loss of taste? Along with the breakage of teeth and gas, I could see this as the only other side affect.
Oh...and the fact that it drives my husband crazy when we are trying to watch a movie......crunch, crunch, crunch....

I'm eating ice right now...I can't go a day without eating it. I even got an ice cube tray that makes tiny ice cubes (for water bottles). I eat those constantly.

I am anemic, have been for over 3 years. I try to take iron pills and multi-vitamins, but some days I forget. I have O-Neg blood and I feel really bad for not being able to donate it. I know it is needed.

I am a little scared for my teeth, but as many of you have said...at least I am eating ice and filling up on it instead of cake or something bad for me. I am over weight and trying to loose it. Ice helps me focus, believe it or not!

Do guys eat ice as much as women? I mean, I know anemia has a part, but do you think any guys eat ice just because?lol

Keep on crunchin'!

Eating ice in this manner may be due to iron deficiency. I started eating ice like crazy when I was pregnant and did not stop for over 15 years. I damaged my teeth as a result. I ended up getting a blood transfusion and that was the cure for me. I no longer have to eat the ice from drinks or go on midnight outings to buy ice. Eating food high in iron, or taking a good iron supplement may help. If that doesn't do it, see your doctor about the problem at least so you can save your teeth from damage.

I 've been eating ice since i got my first period and then they found out i was anemic so with iron suplement i was back in the normal for practically three years i 'd get my blood check every six months and nothing was wrong . before school ended i almost passed out ,blood pruesure up they almost had to call a ambulance .On the next monday since that happened on a friday i went to my doctor and it came to be that i was anemic again but it actually is called Thalasimia its ablod condition if you've gotten checked for anemia get them more frequent because it could mean you have thalasamia if you eat ice alot GET A BLOOD TEST.Also the reason for eating ice is that everyone knows water is H20 containg oxygen well ice contains more oxygen so our bodies are begging for oxygen and thas a way to get .Like a tree who needs water .

I've been eating ice off and on for years. I did notice that after taking iron for a few months th cravings went away. Now I am eating ice again crazy. My last blood work did not indicate enemia. Yet, my concern now is that i am having some GI problems. Some times diareah, sometimes constipation. I am concerned that i messed myself up eating ice. I am addicted and don't want to stop. Nevertheless, i wonder if the ice i eat is causing problems due to it being contaminated or cold ice isn't good for the stomach. I would stop if I knew for sure the ice was messing my stomach up.

Eating ice does not cause anemia, it is a symptom of anemia. The condition is called pica. Pica is a disorder where a person craves thing of non-nutritional value. Some of the things that people who have pica crave are ice, flour and dirt. Pica often occurs in pregnant women who have anemia. However, the desire for eating these things can be lessened with the correct dosage of iron. You should ask your doctor about this disorder and the proper treatment. Taking iron supplements did reduce my desire for ice but it also caused me to have severe constapation. So for now I'm back to eating ice.

hahah back to the eating ice <33 you friend.

For as long as I can remember I have always eaten ice. There have been times when I have not eaten it as much but there also have been times like now where I eat it alot. I wake up every day and I don't want coffee, I want ice. I am not anemic at all and my pregnancy was very normal. I just like to eat ice. I also love the smell of dirt. I live in west Texas and you can smell the dirt in the water and for some strange reason I love that smell as well. I also love the smell of fresh linen so go figure. Rolling Eyes
