| I am so glad to read the comments here on eating ice. I thought I was very abnormal. I agree with everything here. The soft frosty cubes, the chomping on ice all the time. This has been very useful but if anyone is out there and knows of any harm this causes I would love to hear that also. |

I've been chewing ice for about two years now. I'd make a pitcher of crushed ice from the fridge and fill it with water every night...to soak...so it would be perfect in the morning. It was so bad, it was affecting my job and relationships because I'd do it in front of the computer, by myself, and do nothing else but play games. I'd even speed home from an appointment...and couldn't wait to rush up there and chew my ice. If I didn't have some softening in the fridge, I'd be upset. Sometimes, I'd stop at a Sonic and get just a huge cup of ice.
I was telling my friends for months it was the weirdest compulsion I've ever had, but couldn't stop.
However, along with all of this, these past two years, I've been gradually feeling tired, weak and easily fatigued. I'm 42 and thought I was just getting old and needed to start working out more. So, I went and played tennis with a friend of mine, 15 minutes into hitting the ball back and forth, I was whipped. She called the very next day and had me scheduled to see an internist. He called me the very next day and told me to get to the hospital immediately...that my Hemoglobin count was 5 and it should be 12.
I had to have to units of blood and have been on iron supplement ever since. I've had no ice cravings. I miss it a little...but don't crave it and haven't done it in about 2 weeks.
Please if you have this craving, go get your blood checked. It could be a very dangerous condition that could leave you passing out. |

you i have the same problem with eating ice. now i start to have these different kinds of pain in my back and on the left side of my body. i don't know if it is from eating ice or something else. i only eat the frosted part of the ice. i really take time to melt my ice cubes down to the frosty part. its so bad that only certain ice trays can be used. i have at least 10 ice trays in my freezer 5 of them are off limits to anybody that wants some ice. i feel my ice trays with hot water only. i need help to stop eating ice so much. some people tell me to just stop. they don't understand its not that easy. its an addiction that is hard to get rid of. i had my iron checked and my doctor said i fine. i carry a cup of ice with me every where i go. i need some medical advice.
please help me! |

| I am 47 years old; and I have been addicted to eating ice since I had my children in the early 80's. I did not remember being told that I was anemic at that time. Ten years ago I had a severe pain in my stomach and went to the emergency room and it turned out to be a severe case of gas! Anyway while they were testing me they found me to be anemic; I replied okay and they said NO you are severely anemic; to the point where you could use a blood transfusion. So long story short I was put on iron tablets 3 times a day; which made be very constipated. I know the ice addiction is connected to me being anemic; I just like to eat ice. I don't eat ice that has not been sitting in water. I don't just chomp on big hard ice. I like soft ice. I have to have water with the ice. In closing just glad to know that I am not alone in my ice addiction. Although there are times when I don't eat any ice for days. I believe even if I control my anemia; I will start like ice. Call me a fool for ice. |

| I started eating ice about six months ago while I was pregnant with my second child. I have not been able to stop eating it. I have a bowl full with each meal in addition to the ice that is in my drink. It is sad that when I fix my plate I fix a bowl of ice to go with it. And I am like some others I just can't eat any ice. If it comes for the ice maker I have to wash it to make it easier to chew. However I prefer ice from Kroger because the have gourmet ice. For some reason that clear ice that comes from Publix just does not do it for me. So when I go shopping I make sure I pick up a bag. Which I can usually go through in 2 days. I know that I am anemic the nutritionist keeps telling me I need more iron in my diet but it is such an addition that I can't stop long enough to keep supplements. I don't know what to do. I even try to justify it by saying I eat enough to cover my daily allowance of water. It's sad I know. |

| I had no idea how many people were enjoying exactly the same ice fetish as I!! Right down to the soft, easy to chew kind that is made by soaking the ice in water. I consume about half a gallon to a gallon of water a day by eating ice in water. I, too, find myself rushing home with nothing else on my mind but getting that ice in my mouth. However, there is one thing I did not see anyone else mention. I crush the ice with my teeth and then let it sit on my tongue until it melts and then swallow it. It cools my tongue. In fact, it cools my whole body. I went to Thailand in January and got heat stroke while I was there. I have had this ice fetish every since. Anyone else have this hot syndrome soothed by ice? |
