Hi, my husband had ACDF a week ago, and he still has pain. He is taking medications, but it still hurts. Did any of you have similar problems following ACDF?

Hi, it’s normal to have pain a weeks after ACDF. Sometimes, pain can last even for several weeks or months. The only thing your husband can do is to take painkillers that his doctor has prescribed him, and to wait for pain to go away. Of course, if meds don’t work at all, he can ask his doctor to prescribe him something else. Much more serious problems can follow ACDF, such as hoarseness and swallowing difficulties, lung problems, throbophlebitis and nerve damage. There is also a complication related to persistent pain. However, it is still too early to consider it. Your husband should return to normal activities and be encouraged to walk.
