I was talking on the phone yesterday during lunch and a piece of food got stuck in my throat. I tried to push it out with coughing but I couldn’t. I started choking and couldn’t take breath, I got so scared and started squeezing and hitting hard the upper abdomen with my fists for a few times and then I lay hard on the chair’s rest when it got out. I think it was seconds that this was happening but it was so scary. a\t the moment I thought I was going to die. Anyway, I would say that went well but ever since I had a strange pain in the area where I was pressing. I was wondering if this is how it’s supposed to go or should I have it checked!
I would say you were lucky yesterday but I also think that you should have this pain checked! I don’t know how hard you pushed but if it were very hard, you could have hurt yourself without even knowing. Different problems can occur after Heimlich maneuver. For example, you could have broken your ribs if you pressed hard against the chair or injured some of the internal organs. This happens when the maneuver is not done right and who knows what you did considering that you were performing it yourself in a critical moment. You could have hurt your chest and ribs and even heart.
