For the last month Ive had a severe itch problem. After I shave regardless of what razor, shaving cream, or technique I use I itch from the knee down only. Even if I shave above the knee I still only itch mainly on my calves.
It will start to itch directly after and then subsides. Each time Ive shaved in the last month Ive woken up at 3:30 am severely itching to the point of nearly ripping my skin off. Cortizone, Lubriderm, Aloe, Ive tried everything!!! IT stops whn it wants to and thats that. Ive had to take a painkiller to make me sleepy enough to ignore the itch that is so bad that im in pain and finally fall asleep.
Tonight I tried nair for sensitive skin. This was about 5 hours ago. I am now severely itching again, as usual nothing is helping. Ive used everything you can possibly think of!!!!! This only happens after shaving, never any other time. I have sensitive skin and have an itch here and there but nothing to this level!!!
PLeasem someone help me Im going insane!!!
I have no medical insurance either, so a dermatologist is not an option for me Sad

I have the same problem and actually investigated lazer treatment so that I could get relief from the itching. Too expensive for me. maybe someday...

I should add that with my problem it is not due to the amount of moisture or any kind of dryness factor. I use Avalon shaving cream with Lavender oil which is an organic product. I also moisturize copiously imediately after showering. It does not seem to have any effect on the itching. And yes, I have tried switching lotions...no effect. I use it all over my body and don't itch anywhere else. Also I don't itch there when I don't shave.

I also use a 2 blade razor because I discovered that more blades = more itching because it was producing a closer shave, which caused the hair to be cut further beneath the skin. The itching for me comes from hair growing back and breaking through the skin. Sometimes it itches so bad that I've produced scabs and bleeding. Truly miserable.

The new thing seems to be more blades these days and trying to find a razor with less blades is difficult. I have thought about switching to an old fashioned replaceable single blade unit and just always use very sharp brand-new blades and shave the direction the hair grows. Shaving in the direction that the hair grows seems to be the only thing that does provide for me a modicum of relief. Also, I shave very lightly, which means the blade has to be ultra sharp so that it will cut the hair as it lays flat against your skin. It's not as close a shave but it will have to do. I'd rather not itch. Fortunately my hair is sparse and I don't have to shave above the knee.

Strangely enough this did not happen to me when I was a teenager and in my early 20's. It's gotten progressively worse as I have gotten older. (34 curr.)

Most of the time though I just wear pants and don't shave at all. My hubby dosen't mind Wink. If I do have to shave though, I employ these tactics. I do plan to get myself one of those single blade contraptions.
