Progesterone/estradiol benefits in post menopause

What are the benefits of hormone replace therapy in post menopause? Can body adjust on lack of progesterone and estradiol in menopause? Is it safe to keep on with HRT in post menopause period? I’m 48 and am in perimenopause. I would like to survive this period drug free.

Well, I think that HRT has benefits in menopause. It reduces hot flashes; helps keep bones strong, decreases vaginal dryness and reduces level of blood cholesterol. It is also associated with certain medical problems, like blood clots development and is not recommended in women with increased risk of breast or uterus cancer. But also, I read that HRT reduces risk of development of colon cancer. So, it seems highly individual and requires professional help to make such a decision.
