I had a tubal 12 years ago, during a C-section. Since then my periods have been normal, very few cramps, one or two heavy days at the start, a few light days in the middle, and then one or two heavy days and a day of just spotting. I don't get any PSM except tender breasts for 2 to 3 days before the cycle starts.
I've been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (Grave's) for 4 years. I'm controlled through medication and my most recent lab work was within range. Previous to that my dosage was increased slightly becuase my levels were higher than desired, was attributed to stress.
During the last 6 months my stress level has increased even more. I am seaking therapy to try and control the stress level and avoid increasing my medication again or having to undergo surgery.
My period 2 months ago was skipped. I considered it very strange because my cycle is very regular (this was not a symptom of my hyperthyroidism) and both my daughters are very regular, and our periods run within a day or two of each other every month.
I had a normal period last moth and attributed the skipped period to stress or eary onset menopause. This month my period came on schedule, then after the first few days, became light, then never "picked back up" and stopped. I've been spotting very very lightly, no more than one panty liner in a day, for almost 15 days.
I intended to get my hyperthyroidism tested again next month, at the appointment I intend to dicuss this with him and get a referral to a OBGYN. I have not been seen by one in several years and dread doing it, but understand the need.
I've searched the web extensively and found some information on prolonged spotting lasting months being harmless and Idiopathic.
My question is how seriously is prolonged spotting? if it last more than 3 weeks does it need immediate treatment. I don't have any pain or other vaginal symptoms, except very low libdo, which I believe is stress related. I would like to wait for my lab work, see my dr as planned, and continue as my schedule permits, but I'm worried the spotting may be a serious symptom of something. |
