What is puerperal infection of newborn? Can it be diagnosed by ultrasound? I’m 6 months pregnant and want to be well prepared for delivery. What are the symptoms of puerperal infection? Is it easy to recognize? Thanks in advance.
Puerperal infection is caused by infection of genital tract that can happen after giving the birth. It happens rarely nowadays, thanks to antiseptic procedure during delivery and antibiotics. It actually affects mother and not baby, as you understood. The primary symptom is fever, but it is not automatic indicator. Fever in postpartal period can have other causes and it is necessarily to investigate what these causes are.
