My dr. prescribed a pill by phone on thurs. for what we assumed a yeast infection. it's sunday morning and I'm still experiencing itching. What could be causing it??? I am 54 and sexually active.

you might have sytemic candidiasis, untill you treat that, vaginal itch and infections will continue to repeat. Also, there are bacterial infections, your doctor could do a test to see...if you treat yourself, your partner should also get treatment.
