I am doing a little research on this bladder sling surgery. I have a friend who had it done several weeks ago. She found out that there is more than one way to do it. Her Dr. goes in through the inside of the leg and places the mesh and then out the other inside leg. He actually makes a 'floor' there for support. This, also, keeps from strangling the urethra. The other way of doing it is going through the frontal area near the pubic bone. That is the way that supposedly strangles the urethra and keeps the bladder from emptying all the way, thus causing the kind of infections that you have and others I have read of in other cases. My friend is doing great! No problems. I have an appointment to see her Dr. real soon, as my Dr. does not do much surgery anymore. We shall see what he has to say. I hope that you can find help. See if there is any other Dr. that does the procedure differently. I'd think you'd be much more healthy with the thing out at this point..Good luck to you.

I just had my bladder floor worked on with the surgery called Cystocele repair, and then had the pubavaginal sling put in. This was the worst surgery I have every had. I had the surger on Jan 10th, and since Feb. 3, I have had a bladder infection that they can not seem to get rid of. Or at least that is what they said it was. I just went to my general Dr. and sure enough i had one with hi nitrates in it, which means, Ive had it for awhile, and all the antibiotics I have been taking for the last 3 weeks were not working. She is hoping to get a culture from this sample and that the new antibiotics im on will work. My urologists, who I was seeing before for all the pain i was in, finally said he didn't know what the problem was and didn't know how to help.

I'm not sure if the surgery he did caused all these problems or not, but I do know this. This is the worst infection I have ever had in my life, and like others on here I have had my share (1-2 a month after my 1st sling), but nothing like this.

Hi I had a bladder sling, uterus removed and a suspension done on Feb. 13th 2007 and I have had to self cath everyday since. I can't empty my bladder. Now it looks like I will have to have it removed after my 6 week check up. That is coming up in 2 weeks does anybody have any advice about what to expect after the sling is taken out? Thanks

I had the old-fashioned bladder suspension back in 1987 with a hysterectomy (2 9+ pound babies did a number on my inners!). I had occasional uninary infections off and on for a few years, and then started to develop incontinence and more infections around 2000.

I held off for a while thinking older women naturally have incontinence, but I finally had a bladder suspension surgery back in 2002 and have done very well for the past 5 years up until last week when I developed symptoms of an infection again (frequency, burning, bladder spasms, hesitency). However, the urine shows NO infection so far. So I'm going to see a urologist again next week (the soonest I can get in).

Guess what? NO bladder surgery lasts forever. I've been told this by 3 doctors; and any weight changes may speed up the need for a new surgery. (I've been working hard on trying to be healthier in my "golden" years; so have lost about 40 pounds through diet and exercise. I shouldn't have ignored that excess weight so long!).

It would be really handy if everybody that does not know how to spell, made an effort (and learnt or check your dictionary if you have one) when posting comments. I spend a great deal of time trying to decipher what is being commented on. It really does spoil everything and detracts from the message.

Hi, I had the "old" surgery which lasted 13 yrs and then 2 yrs ago I had the sling surgery. Since then I've had pain and urgency problems. I now just had the TVT released on one side to hopefully relieve the pinching feeling and allow my bladder to drain completely. The surgeon told me I had a bladder infection (found during surgery) so he prescribed 5 days antibiotics and now 7 days after surgery I have a fungal infection to complete my surgery experience. I was told that after this infection your body needs the enzyme/antibodies in yogurt. You can also take the pill form (get from health food store) so my sister-in-law who's a nurse told me. Hope this helps me and some of you!

I had the mesh bladder surgery done about a year ago. Ever since then it has been very painful during intercorse. I have pain and bleeding from my urethra. It is making my sex life very difficult. It is very frustrating, has anyone else had this problem. I really could use some advice.

Hi Ladies, Let me tell you my story! Its ugly and if anyone has a solution, please email me asap (origcyn2@aol.com). I had a neoprene bladder sling inserted in 2000. I had abdominal pain after sex, sharp pains. I went to the doctor, they told me I had infections. This went on for a while. Then, they said that the sling had penentrated my bladder and did surgury to burn it out. They left what wasnt inside my bladder refusing to remove it, saying it could not be done. Still pain after sex. I go to the Gyn, he yanks my ovaries, saying that the pain is caused by them. I still have pain, and its now 2007. Cant get a decent doctor to touch me and get this thing out of me. They say its MAJOR surgury, like an organ transplant, that the neoprene is clear, and the wouldnt be able to find it. My concern is this: The pain is there, it now affects every day things as well as my sex life. Anyone out there going through this? Any ideas what to do or where to go next?

I`ve had a nightmare with my bladder sling surgery. I had it two years ago and was very ill right after surgery. Ran a fever and had alot of pain. Never had surgery before, so thought it was normal to feel crummy afterwards. After a few weeks, I started to feel better, but never felt really well. Still had feelings of needing to urinate all the time. As the months went by, it actually became painful to urinate. It was like a painful "bearing down" sensation. And sometimes so powerful, it caused me to deficate when I had not intended to. I kept going back to my urologist and telling him how crappy I was felling. He was stumpped by it all and insisted that I should feel great by now. He kept testing me for bladder retention and infections, but nothing. Tried different drugs and antibiotics, but no changes and pain was getting worse. I was in daily misery. Then finally my urologist scheduled me for a scyscoptomy?(mispelled). Anyway, went in and looked inside my bladder, and low and behold, there was a huge growth of crystals in there, growing off the wall of my bladder. He told me that the sling`s mesh had perferated my bladder wall and my antibodies had attacked this "forein object" and tried to "isolate it" by building a wall of crystals around it. So we scheduled another surgury for him to go in there and break up and remove the crystals. He did and I felt wonderful almost emediately. However, now a year or so later the problems have returned and I`m having the exact same symptoms. So I made an appointment with the urologist again to see if perhaps the crystals may have grown back. I`ll get back to you with the results. I feel like I am some sort of oddity or Freak of Nature. Millions of women have these operations with no problems, but I guess those of us on this site must be that tiny percentage that aren`t so lucky. Thanks for listening anyway.
