Recurrent urinary retention, lots of pain on lower left abdomen, no cyst on ovary, irregular menstra

I almost went to the emergency room tonight but I felt silly about going because two weeks ago I went twice in one week and once was admitted for all kinds of testing. Sixteen days ago I went because I couldn't urinate. Two days later my urinating wasn't back to normal and the pain in my side was much worse and my doctor wanted to have tests run but didn't have any appointments for the day so I went to the emergency room for them. The urgent cares she sent me to didn't take my insurance. So, they found that there's nothing wrong with me. The doctor told me I probably have a cyst on my ovary and it's probably all hormonal because of the irregular menstral (since January 2006 I've only had three periods). So I saw an OBGYN who says I don't have a cyst on my ovary - the ultra sound that initally gave me reason to see him showed a cyst 2cm large which the OBGYN says is not even half the size that an ovarian cyst is. He did an ultra sound and saw nothing for himself. He says the reason why I'm in so much constant pain is because my ovaries are trying to ovulate and they can't because I haven't been producing any projestrin. But wouldn't my right ovary hurt too? It does every now and then but the left side is a terrible constant pain that radiates into my back. Also this entire year I was so sure I've had a UTI but the tests all say that I don't. Today I was unable to urinate again and the pain on my left side has gotten so much worse. I came home from work early and drank a lot of water (thinking maybe that would flush it out whatever it is) and it helped a little. I did go - not much but I did go. If I'm still having problems I'll go in the morning but my question to you is - what else could this be?

I have the exact same thing happening to me now, did you find a solution? I do have a kidney infection for sure, but it didn't seem to start with a UTI. The urinary retention is coming and going. I hurt when it happens, badly, and feel relief when it goes away.
