Red sore on big toe

I'm having a weird problem and hope someone can help me figure out what it is.

I have a red sore or red lump (it's not open or leaking) and it feels firm to the touch and hurts when I put on shoes. This happens every year, I think in the summer (although need to verify that) and I think it just disappears.

But again, it's here on my big toe, near the nail on the outside of the toe. It's a deep red color and feels swollen.

Does anyone know what this is? I'm going to have to see a Dr. but no insurance. Sad
