Hi, my friend was healthy all his life. There was not a single day when he complained that there is something wrong with him. A month ago he started having headaches. Since they did not stop after a week, he went to see the doctor. After some tests, he was diagnosed with cerebral cavernous hemangioma. What kind of condition is this and how is it removed?

Hi, cerebral cavernous hemangioma is also known by a few other names such as cavernous angioma or cavernoma. This condition affects blood vessels of the central nervous system especially the brain. The blood vessels get extremely dilated and have one coating of endothelium. The lesions of them have no neuronal tissue. The interesting thing about cerebral cavernous hemangioma is that it can be present the entire life and you may not even be aware of it. On the other hand, some patients with this kind of illness can have very serious symptoms like seizures, paralysis, bleeding in the brain and in most severe cases death. What symptoms will occur depend on the location of the lesions in the brain. As for its removal, it is again important the location of hemangioma. The best way it can be performed is by a microsurgery. This is a complicated procedure done by neurosurgeons. I hope your friend recovers quickly.
