Hi. I`m 37 years old and was diagnosed with atherosclerosis 2 years ago. Now, my doctor tells me that I have a renal artery stenosis. Also, he told me that the treatment is not necessary? Doubt that.
Hi. Renal artery stenosis is the narrowing of the renal artery, caused by atherosclerosis or fibromuscular dysplasia. Can lead to atrophy of the affected kidney. Also, if not treated it can lead to renal failure. Treatment of Renal Artery Stenosis is necessary if the blood pressure cannot be controlled with meds, or the renal function deteriorates. It was found that angioplasty with stenting was effective. Surgical resection and anastomosis is an option, but rarely used.
