Hi, I would like to ask a question concerning retina detachment, because my sister got it recently diagnosed. She went to regular eye vision control and discovered something completely unexpected. What is actually retinal detachment?

The retina is the light layer of tissue that is situated on the inside of the eye. It’s purpose is to send visual messages by optic nerve to the brain. Detached retina is lifted or pulled from its normal position. If this condition persists for longer time, it can cause permanent vision loss. If there are some small areas of the retina that are torn, known as retinal tears or retinal breaks, they can lead to retinal detachment. Symptoms are increase in either the number of floaters, little "cobwebs" or specks that float about in your field of vision, and possibly light flashes in the eye. Some people experience symptom like appearance of a curtain over the field of vision. A retinal detachment is a medical emergency, and requires proper treatment.
