I don't think there is any alternative to a root canal, or I should say, any alternative treatment equal to that of a root canal - except extraction, which is always a last resort. Of course, the best thing to do is to avoid the need for them in the first place and take good care of your teeth. Flossing every day is important as well as regular brushing. Its the same stuff that the dentist usually tells you during a check-up.
