Psoriasis is a disease that affects skin and joints and causes red scaly patches on skin. Recently, scientists found that people who smoke have a greater risk of developing psoriasis. Also, research determined that smokers are at greater risk of skin conditions and it reverses to normal condition no sooner than 20 years after stopping smoking.
Researches before this one also examined influence of smoking on psoriasis but they were unable to determine whether smoking occurred before the onset of the condition. This study found during 14 years of research about 900 cases of psoriasis and compared the results with the women who never smoked. Report says that risk was increased by 40% in past smokers and about 80% in current smokers. What they also found was fact that even pregnant women who were exposed to passive smoking were at risk of developing this disease.
Experts claim that quitting the habit may lower the level of smoke induced inflammation in patients body by reducing levels of circulating immune cells. They advise patients to quit smoking for both general health and psoriasis.
This study opens new questions about correlation between smoking and psoriasis and it clearly needs more research because there are number of people with psoriasis who never smoked at all.
It is fact that psoriasis is caused due to internal immune system, so targeting immune system is a good tactic. fast psoriasis relief is a herbal medicine which improves the ability of immune system.
