Severe Throat Pain, Bad Cough, Loads of Phlegm, Lower Ab Pai

Hi, I recently went to the doctor with the following symptoms: Severe Throat Pain, Bad Cough, Loads of Phlegm, Runny/Blocked Nose, Lower Ab Pain, Fever, Joint Aches, my Head feels really tense like its under hogh pressure and its always really hot, yet other parts of my body get cold, all of which came on within a day.

Now I went to the doctor who said it was just a virus and to spend a few days in bed. Its now been 2 days and I feel my symptoms are just getting worse, well more painful anyway! Because of all the phlegm my body is producing, my throat is red raw from coughing and there is so much of this phelgm I sometimes feel like I am choking at night. I have taken some over the counter remedies like all in 1 flu medicines (these contained; decongestant, paracetamol, expectorant) but none of these seem to help much (for a very limited time I feel marginally better but as soon as that wears off im in bad pain again).

So do you guys think I've just got a virus? if so what would be the best course of action to take because im in really serious pain. Thanks. Sad
