I find this a bit freaky. I have suffered fro the same problem for some time now. I however just comes at random but after some time especially if I visit a new place.

After I consulted one of my medical student friend, he advised me that my skin might be sensitive to the minerals in the waters and struggling to adjust to new situations.

I just hope its not a life long thing because its annoying!!!

I am 20 Years old and have had this problem Off and On since i was 16 or so, Really confused as to what makes it come back. its not the weather or soaps i use, One thing i have narrowed it down to is Meth Use, never have I been High enough to imagine things on me or bugs or anything like that. Since i was 15 i have been useing meth. the problem didnt start then nor did it stop when i quit useing for periods of up to 4 months. Also the itching from sweat disapeared for some time about 2 years and during this time i was useing meth Way more frequently then ever before. About 3 months ago it is back lol. It is defenetly a DRY feeling itch that turns rapidly into severe uncontrolling "burning or peircing" sensation that at times brings me into tears and onto my knees screaming. i tell my doctor i use meth marajuana and drink achohol on a regular bases he says this is most likely the cause. Ive tried everything from lotions to antihstamins Nuetrogena Which seemed to help until that night when i awoke in trenmendous pain and uncontrollably scratching my self. if i dont be careful when i scratch i will leave several scratch marks all over my upper body thighs and back. if anyone has a cure or natural remedy to this sweating that is very irate please be kind and post it thank you ./p.s. like i said ive quit meth for over 8 months and during that time the sweating itch was still consistant

I have had this condition for a few months now. I am convinced that, like psoriasis, it is stress induced. After searching the internet the one treatment that seems to help everyone is UV or photo treatment (so that is why a sun tan helps). Many also advise showering at night and not in the morning - interesting.

I am trying to eliminate all milk products from my diet to see if that helps,as I have been off wheat for a number of years already. I have started taking an antihistamine - it reduces the severity of the itch, but I doubt if this could be a long term solution.

And as far as blood diseases go - in my case I am very anemic (hemoglobin 9) - so that rules out that one - the disease that they talk about is exactly the opposite!

I am 46 and have had this since i was 18 or so.

I itch terribly after a shower, when exposed to static, smelly soaps do it, it is an itch I cannot itch.

* been to multiple dermis, no help.
* neurologists

where i am now.

* restless leg - mirapex has helped, along with a pain killer and lyrica

possibly have celiac disease, jury still out, thanks for the aquagenic pruritis, interesting.

i am going to look at the aquagenic pruritis, i suggest others look at the restless leg diagnosis

Hello

i too suffered with this until recently, and boy am i relieved. i know exactly what other people mean by pain - its odd how an itch can become painful, but nerves can be odd critters indeed!

wet & drying skin is sensitive to the movement of your own hair ends. hair is quite pointy end-on, especially when split.

try delicately stroking the itchy area (not being rude here people, i know it's the internets but concentrate!) and nearby areas, trying to induce your goosebump reflex. the trick is to not scratch at all, once you start scratching its really hard to stop and a second shower is sometimes necessary.

goosebumps steer your hair ends away from your skin, just enough to stop the itch. this applies to not so hairly people as well, because the combination of water and toweling can make even the shortest hairs' ends touch your skin.

so simple, no drugs, and only takes about 5 minutes. longer hairs settle against each other such that the hair ends no longer agitate your still slightly wet skin, and shorter hairs should be supported upright with drier skin.

i'd appreciate any feedback on this

Wow, like everyone else said I was beginning to think I was going crazy. I've been struggling with this for several months now, since around the time I moved into my current house. I still haven't figured out what causes it, though I strongly suspect it's something in the water here and/or a dermal fungal infection of some sort - yet none of my housemates or neighbors (using the same water source) have the problem. So I'm perplexed.

I live in the rain forest in Costa Rica and it's warm and super-humid here (pouring down rain as I type), so it's definitely not due to dry skin or winter itch.

The water heaters here heat the water as it exits the showerhead and so the water is lukewarm, at best, so the problem is not due to (nor can I see whether it would be relieved by) too-hot water. Adding a water filter is not an option - hard to find down here, and I don't think it would work with this set-up anyway.

My diet here is very carb-heavy, but mostly rice, potatoes, corn, and yucca - I don't eat much wheat. In fact, I ate more wheat when I went back to the States over the holidays, yet I didn't have this problem there. I also ate this same diet (if anything, more carb-heavy) when I lived in other places in the area, yet didn't have this problem.

Some people have said using anti-dandruff shampoo is the problem, but I wonder if it wouldn't help my problem (if it is fungal-related); I'm going to give that a shot, along with some super-moisturizing lotion. However, today I tried putting on lotion after drying off, when the itching started, and it didn't help - in some places made it burn even worse.

Thanks, everyone - glad to know I'm not the only one (though I hope we can all find cures!)

Guys... this is a very interesting Forum and thanks to everyone who has added something because the more data collection the closer we may all be to working out what this is and hopefully a simple cure.
Just to put in my 2 Bob's worth... I used to get itching on the legs after a shower in the mornings and again like others not if I showered in the afternoons or evenings. I was on Tank rainwater so no Chlorines or addatives in the water.
I sold my home and moved to another place and changed my Bed and all my furniture in the new place and I did not have any issues up until 18 Months ago and it has been slowly returning again. I am still on tank rainwater at my new place.
I live in Australia in Queensland where it is Sub Tropical so it is high moisture in Summer and low in winter and I have this issue now which is our Summer.
I went on Holidays just before Christmas for 2 weeks and had stayed in many places over that period and I never experienced one itch however on returning back home it started again 4 days or so after.

My thoughts have been that maybe its a type of Bed Mite or some Microscopic organism. I mostly sleep with the blankets only covering my legs. I figure most people's sleeping habit would be similar with the high percentage of blanket cover being over the legs or 50% of the body during the sleep period. I also figure you get out of bed in the morning and throw the blankets back the blankets will mostly stay covering the lower part of the bed and therefore the UV from daylight which kills Mite is not reaching that part of the bed and provides a haven for the Mite or Microscopic Organism to survive.
Maybe the Mite or Microscopic organism can only live on certain Ph skin and when we get wet it attempts to burrow into our skin to breathe from our pours which may be giving us the itchy sensations.
Anyway.... as they say... Brainstorming is the best way to get results and what I like about this Forum it does just that.
Love to hear back from Dr Jans with his test results.
I am just throwing another theory out there for investigation....

I had itching and with pain all over my body and specially my back after showering which made me unable to even move, and I found after someone's advice that using olive oil or the pure Vaseline while showering makes me come out of the shower with no pain ir itchiness at all. The oiliness is the only problem so all you need is to lightly cover your body at the beginning of the shower before your skins begins to dry, and while you shower make sure some of the oiliness of the Vaseline or the olive oil go away, and make sure you don't use soap, and finish with a cool/lukewarm shower. I'm sure there might be other oils that help such as avocado oil which is said is good but I never tried it.
