Hi. I feel sharp pains in low abdomen. What could that mean? Is it serious? The pain lasts for several hours and, when it starts, seems like there is no relief at all. Should I wait it out or seek help?

Hi. Abdominal pain is very common. There are many reasons for abdominal pain, such as overeating, viral or bacterial infection, and, sometimes, it could be a sign of something more serious. Where exactly does it hurt? Pain in lower middle abdomen may indicate a urinary tract infection, or pelvic inflammatory disease. Pain in lower left abdomen could mean there is something wrong in the lower colon. Pain in lower right abdomen may indicate an inflammation of the colon, or appendicitis. If the pain is persistent, or if it gets worse, seek help.
