Shigellosis is a type of foodborne disease, caused by infection with bacteria of the genus Shigella, and most common among toddlers who are not toilet-trained and their playmates or family members. The most common symptoms are severe diarrhea, often with blood, pus, or mucus, abdominal pain, cramping, fever, vomiting, and febrile seizures in children under the age of two years. Hope this helps.
