When i was on Ortho Tri Cyclen, I had relatively stable moods, good amount of energy and sex drive, increased breast size and better skin. Then...they made me switch to this awful trisprintec (generic) version and it made me so anxious and depressed that I wasn't functioning. So much so that i just stopped taking it mid-cycle and now have the worst cramps and a very heavy and early period. The pill was making me feel so sad and anxious and miserable that I'm thinking it might be best to stay off it permanantly. |
Why'd they make you quit Orthotricyclen? Maybe you should make them put you back on it, since it seems to work so well for you.
As for me, my anxiety and depression subsided for the most part on the pill. It also killed my sex drive, so I went off it a month to clean out my system, tried a low estrogen pill, and when that didn't work, I quit (I've only been off it a few days).
Unfortunately, the reduction in estrogen has resulted in increased facial hair, increased acne, and my depression seems worse. I hope it's just my imagination, and I hope it doesn't get even worse now that I stopped the pill completely! |

| I've been off of the pill for only 3 weeks, after taking it for 14 years...I am now 28, and I've been feeling more worried and neurotic than usual. Yesterday I felt extremely dizzy as well. I think our bodies are just readjusting to the stream of hormones coming back since we are now no longer pregnant (as far as our bodies were concerned). It was amazing to actually feel myself ovulate! I am now practicing Fertility Awareness Method as a form of birth control and I'm observing my body now more than ever. I'm so glad I'm off the pill, but I'll have to be patient with my body getting back to normal. |

| First and foremost, my heart goes out to everyone suffering from "post-pill craziness". I too have gone off the pill, two months ago now, and feel like i'm going nuts. My face and back and breaking out like crazy and my mood swings are out of control. Oh, not to mention the 8 lb weight gain, most of which is water. My therapist has recommended an anti-depressant but I'm hesitant to start putting more chemicals in my body. Does anyone have any good remedies/suggestions for treating the symptoms? The bloating is the worst of it so I'd love any input. |

| I have been off Birth control for a month and I am having extreme dizziness and panic attacks. I have never had them before. I got my first panic attack one week after getting off of the pill. Has anyone else had this problem? I was on Yaz most recently but I have been on different pills for 12 years. i want to know how long this will last? |

Posted: 06/08/07 - 13:19 Post subject: Problems with the pill and getting off it |
| I am 27 and I just recently went off the BCP after 5.5 years. Over the past few years I have noticed gradual symptoms creaping up on me, until 6 weeks ago i could no longer go to work because it was so bad. I have been having headaches, extreme fatigue, hair loss, dry skin, dry eyes, dry throat, loss of libido, insomnia. Once I stopped taking the pills I have noticed gradual improvements, but it's been 5 weeks and I still feel terrible and no period yet. I had my hormone levels tested and found that my estrogen was extremely low 3 days after my last active pill. I've been reading a lot about this stuff lately (best thing - It's my Ovaries, Stupid by Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet) and it looks like there are all sorts of explanations. The pill actually lowers your hormone levels and keeps them constant. Since it replaces the hormones your body makes, your body stops making them and doesn't quite remember how once you stop - especially on high progestin pills like the Zovia I was taking. I don't think it's very common to have these problems, but since the medical field has traditionally ignored possible hormone connections with these symptoms there are too many unknowns. I am seeing an endocrinologist next week and I think I'm going ask about hormone replacement therapy to help get my body back on track since I can't feel like this and work. Whatever you do - don't take premarin or provera. They aren't a good enough match to what your body makes naturally. There are more natural bio-identical hormones to take. I'm looking into an estrogen patch. Good luck to all of you in finding an end to your suffering. |

| Glad to find this forum, as I just stopped taking the pill after being on it 6 years. I started at the age of 17 and found that it helped with my depression. Since I stopped taking it, I have been extremely dizzy and lightheaded, and also slightly lethargic. I'm noticing some mood swings as well. Is it better to get back on the pill or ride it out? I'm not trying to get pregnant, I just wanted to no longer rely on the pill in order to live more naturally. |

| I recently stopped taking the pill, after taking it for 14 years. I have noticed headaches, dizziness, anxiety, and depression. When I was taking the pill I did have really bad episodes of depression at least once a month, and my sex drive was pretty non-existent. I just hope that those things will turn around for the good soon! I really don't understand why I am getting such bad headaches, dizziness, and anxiety right now though. Does anyone have any suggestions why this is happening? |

| I was so happy to find this website. I too was on the pill for 9 years and stopped taking them about 2 weeks ago. I have been dizzy, having headaches, nausea and not sleeping well at night. Everyone I ask in the health care field doesnt think it has anything to do with coming off the pill, but I have to believe when my body was used to a chemical in it for 9 years...to suddenly stop it has some negative effects! I am happy to know that I am not the only one out there who is experiencing adverse reactions to going off the pill...who would have ever thought such a crazy thing?? I thought when I stopped I would suddenly feel so much better, but maybe with a little time we all will! Best wishes to everyone...feel well soon! |

The bloat is horrible! I've been off for only 2 weeks and I have gained 5 pounds which is no doubt water weight. I look exactly like I did when I was pregnant 9 years ago. My stomach is distended as if I were pregnant now (which I assure you I'm not) and my fingers/toes/legs are all swollen. I feel miserable. I'm also very crabby and moody as if I were VERY ppre-menstrual. Anybody else look newly pregnant? Do I have to look and feel like this for months while my body "adjusts?" Help! |

| I have been off the pill for about 10 weeks now. I went off because I was having horrible symptoms, like extreme fatigue, headaches, hair loss, heart palpitations, etc, and my doctor suspected the pill was the cause. I have been getting better and better, but from all the research I've done it looks like it's a big waiting game. Your body will naturally begin to function properly again, but it takes a lot of time and there is not much you can do. I've been told it could take 6 months to a year to fully recover. I now have days where I feel pretty good, but during times that my estrogen levels are low (levles start falling after ovulation and don't pick up again until after your period) I feel terrible again. It speeds recovery by eating well and exercising, but all I am capable of now is a short walk. I was also told to make sure to get enough calcium since low estrogen leads to osteoperosis. |
