Sinus Infection at the beginning of pregnancy

Hi, my nose is all runny and swelling. I believe that I have a sinus infection because I experienced these symptoms before and the doctor diagnosed me with sinusitis. He prescribed me some medicine that really helped me. The problem is that I can't take this drug because I am two months pregnant and I read in the medicine instructions that it can affect my baby. Can you tell me if there are some safe medicines that I can take?

Hi, sinusitis during pregnancy can be normal. The reason for this is the change of hormone levels that pregnancy makes. It is true that many drugs for sinusitis treatment shouldn't be used during the pregnancy. This is because they can get to the baby through the blood stream and influence baby's development. There are some salt water nasal sprays that are harmless to use. However if the infection is more serious, and the salt water nasal spray does not help, you should contact your doctor who will determine the right course of treatment.
