A friend of mine was diagnosed skin cancer on leg. It is visible lesion under his knee, darker and irregular in its shape. He was concerned about that lump that was on his leg about a month, and visited dermatologist. It is actually basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer. I’d like to get information about prognosis of this type of cancer. My friend was scheduled for some other exams and probably is going to have it surgically removed.

Basal cell carcinoma is slow growing type of cancer and usually do not spread on other parts of skin or deeper under the skin. And it is very likely to occur in lower leg. Common surgery, cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen that is applied on tumor to kill the cancer cells or targeted radiation therapy is successfully used in treatment of localized skin cancer. Skin cancer is almost 100% curable when diagnosed and treated on time. Wish all the best to your friend.
