The general belief that “Slow eating reduces intake of calories” has been bandied until recently because there was no scientific evidence to back it up.
Researchers from the University of Rhode Island conducted a study in which they confirmed the theory about the slow eating and calories intake.
The study included 30 college women who were given large pasta dishes and told to eat as much as they wanted. Those women who ate fast manage to eat 646 calories in nine minutes. Women who ate slowly took only 579 calories in twenty nine minutes.
Study results were reported at the annual meeting of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity in October by the study lead author Kathleen Melanson who said that slow eating not only reduces calorie intake but it also gives more satiety after the meal ended as well as 60 minutes afterwards.
