I've been smelling smoke for at more than 8 weeks now. My doctors have no explanation for this. My nutritionist thinks I'm bring up the second hand smoke from my late husband 2 years ago. This sounded strange, but I thought it made perfect sense.

8 WEEKS AGAO I came down with this awful Flu and bronchitis, that wouldn't go away. After the doctors couldn't help me, I sought our my nutritionist, and she discovered I jad a fungus colony in my lungs. The antibiotics the doctors gave me only made it worse.

She place me on a regement of natural therapies, and I'm starting to feel much better.

However, I'm still smelling smoke!! This is daunting, since I don't smoke and it's driving me crazy.

I beleive I'll contact my ENT, since so many of you stated your doc's indicated a sinus issue.

Thank you all for posting, you've given me another direction to follow.

He's been complaining about it for a few days and now it's really, really bugging him. I kept suggesting he call the doctor but he said, "Oh sure, what's HE going to do?" Uh... well... maybe he's heard about it?

Then he was getting really upset about it tonight and I said, "Well Google it, honey." He did and found a discussion on another website, much like this one. At least he'll call our doctor on Monday now.

Moneymaker13, did you get in to your doctor yet and, if so, what did they say?

I feel like I've been reading my own post! I've been smelling cigarette smoke for about six months. At first it was only now and then, now it seems to be most of the time - unless there is a strong scent of cooking, perfume, flowers, etc. I have been asking people at work if they smell the smoke and no one does. I thought someone was smoking just outside the door and the smoke was coming in every time the door opened. I have also use the neti pot to cleanse my sinuses but I stopped - just one of those habits that's difficult to create and maintain.

Does anyone experience headaches - migraine-like that last at least 24-36 hours? I have them about every three or four weeks.

I know I have nasal polyps and I've had many bouts of sinusitis but haven't had the latter in quite awhile.

The smoke-smelling is annoying to be sure. I'm going to try the cupped hand over my nose to see if there's any relief by tomorrow. It's difficult to type with only one hand, tho'! Thanks to all who have shared - except for the grossly insensitive former med student. I hope s/he isn't a practicing physician.

I thought i was going crazy smelling this cigarette smoke all the time. I do have a nasal polyp and sensitive sinuses, but this is the first time I've ever had this experience. I've been taking Claritin regularly, but my doctor told me to stop, especially since I've got an upper respiratory infection right now. Does this ever stop???

I too was having this problem and it was driving me crazy. I smelled smoke everywhere and it was like I had my nose in a dirty ashtray! I reviewed my daily activity for changes and recognized that I had begun taking a whole slew of vitamins recently. I stopped all of the vitamins and within a week, I was no longer smelling smoke! I don't know if it was the combination of vitamins I was taking or one specific vitamin causing it. I will now have to slowly begin adding them to my diet. That way, I should be able to discover what vitamin or combination causes it. Very Happy

I too kept smelling smoke where there is not smoke and you are quite right. It was not only annoying, but I thought I was going crazy. I thought about any recent changes in my life style and the only big change was I began taking quite a few vitamins. I quit all of the vitamins and within a week, the smoke smell was gone. I have not tried adding them back into my diet as yet because I don't want that horrible smell. But if you are on vitamins....try stopping for a week and see if the smell goes away. I am smoke smell free and enjoying every minutes of it. Very Happy

after reading numerous posts regarding the constatnt smell of cigarette smoke i thought i'd post this. as with everyone else i too smelled smoke constantly. i no longer do and i'm not saying this is the cure, but by accident it seems to have stopped completely. what i've done is i've stopped taking allegra-d which i've takin every day for the last 9 or 10 months. secondly i've been taking fairly high doses of naproxen / naprosen /aieive. they're all pretty much the same. due to many career related injuries i've been taking it for quite some time. i'm not 100% sure either one was the reason but what i do know is that i've stopped both of them completely and for the fist time i havent had that nasty smell of cigarettes for over a week. if your taking either one of these or something closely related...stop for a week and see what happens. my thoughts are it was the sinus meds. (allegra) good luck out there.

I am so relieved that I found this site. Like the other posts, no matter where I go lately, I cannot escape the smell of cigarette smoke but nobody else around me can smell it! There is no obvious source of it. In the state where I live, all indoor smoking in public places is banned. I do not smoke and I live alone in my own house which is in a somewhat rural setting, distant from the neighbors. I could not figure out why this stench, though faint, is always getting into my sinuses! At first I thought the smokers at work were standing too close to the air intake for the building, but I was told the intake is on the roof, too remote for that to happen. I smelled it all day yesterday when I was attending a seminar away from work. I almost rewashed my hair last night thinking that secondhand smoke stuck in my hair from earlier in the day when I might have passed by people smoking outside. I hate this odor and it gives me migraines! Maybe it is the hairspray or fabric softener that I switched to in the last couple months.

I can't believe it. I didn't think I would find anything.
I also think "sinuses" is a bit of a broad explaination. I have never had sunus trouble. I do have a major problem with perfume, as one lady mentioned.
To the guy who answered the jerk with a vocabulary so limited that he had to resort to name calling---Do you really believe he ever went to med school? Do you believe he has a practice?
Keep the info coming. I don't have any thing helpful, but if I find anything I will post it.

Hi All! I have had this problem on and off for almost 2 years. It went away for about 6 months ans now it is back. I do not have any sinus problems as far as I know and am not congested. In fact I can smell everything very strongly and usually can't tolerate strong smells. Oftentimes it smells like someone is standing next to me smoking,I hate it! ( I am not a smoker nor is my husband).
I recently started taking Ambien again for insomnia, and I am wondering if there is any connection. I had stopped it approx 7 months ago,and did not smell smoke for 6 months. I never thought it could possibly be the ambien. I had been taking it nightly for a week when the smell came back. I have stopped the ambien ,and I am waiting to see if there is any change. I will definately post if it goes away. Thanks to all who have posted. I have been a nurse for 17 years and have been afraid to ask anyone about this. I have never had a patient complain of this. As to the the supposed MD that wrote the nasty comment:Clearly he is not an MD(although I have worked with some jerks,no one this negative) Most likely a kid taking psych 101 and wanting to show off "big words"and be mean thinking they are cool. Again, thanks to all for these postings!
