I had a severe C. Dif infection 3 years ago following a course of Clindamycin. Treated in hospital with IV metronidazole & Vancomycin, then for months on & off with p.o. Vancomycin. Seemed to be gone but just recurred, much milder with only bloating & some cramping but positive culture. Just completed 10 days of oral Flagyl 500mg 3 x a day but still have symptoms.
What is latest recommendation re "pulsing" doses to eliminate bacteria as they emerge from spores?

Vancomycin is the best you can get for c diff. The fact is that it is not guaranteed that works in all the patients and that happen because of spores. They can still be present after therapy, when bacteria are destroyed. Spores are resistant forms of this bacteria that make it that complicated to cure. You should try with some of known alternative treatments that help to make the balance in intestinal flora. You have probably heard for acidophilus, lactobacillus, bifidobacterium and other yogurt cultures. I think that these supplements can be very effective in recolonization of good bacteria in your digestive system. It is not uncommon for c dif infections to recur in people that get off the medications.
